Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a key role within the Accounting & Finance team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting month-end and year-end closing activities, and providing analytical insight to support operational and financial decision-making. This position is hands-on, detail-oriented, and fast-paced, requiring a strong understanding of GAAP, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, amortizations, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform month-end close processes to meet corporate deadlines.
  • Assist with year-end close and audit preparation.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Analyze variances and trends; provide clear explanations and recommendations.
  • Partner with departmental managers to interpret financial data and support forecasting.

Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Banking & Inventory Support

  • Oversee the AR and AP function, reviewing for accuracy, timely reporting and proper coding as needed.
  • Book Cash Receipts and Reconcile Bank Account daily.
  • Assist with inventory reconciliations, costing analysis, and cycle count reviews.
  • Support the accounting team in resolving discrepancies and improving processes.

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Help maintain compliance with internal controls, company policies, and GAAP standards.
  • Identify opportunities for system or process improvements; support implementation efforts.
  • Assist with tax filings, property tax schedules, and other regulatory requirements as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 2 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience required—manufacturing, construction, or distribution industry experience preferred.  Cost Accounting Experience a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and core accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
